Getting started

Pinto Notes is a free, open-source notes app for iPhone and Mac that ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code, Codex and Incredible can search, read and edit, with your approval. It works like Apple Notes, imports your Apple Notes on the Mac, and syncs between iPhone and Mac.

See how it works

Yes. Pinto Notes is free, with no ads and no tracking in the app. It's also open source, so anyone can read the code.

Mac (macOS 26 or later) and iPhone. The iPhone app is coming to the App Store soon.

On your Mac, choose File → Import from Apple Notes. Import everything, or pick the notes you want. Folders, tables and pictures come along, checklists and pins too when Pinto Notes has Full Disk Access, and nothing in Apple Notes is changed.

On iPhone, share a note from Apple Notes to Pinto Notes. Or import on your Mac, and everything shows up on your iPhone a second later.

How to move from Apple Notes, step by step

Yes. Your notes live in the cloud. Sign in with the same account on your Mac and iPhone, and a change on one shows up on the other in about a second, even while you're typing.

Yes. Your notes are on your device too, so you can read and write without a connection. Your edits stay on the device and sync when you're back online. If the same note changed somewhere else in the meantime, the newer edit wins and the other is kept as a copy, so nothing is lost.

Connecting an AI

Claude: Amber Notes is in Claude's connector directory. Open https://claude.ai/directory/amber-notes, choose Connect to Claude, then Allow in Pinto Notes. Do it once, on claude.ai or in the Claude desktop app, and Claude's phone apps can use it too.

ChatGPT: in Pinto Notes, open Settings → Connect an AI, pick ChatGPT and follow the steps, on chatgpt.com, which is where OpenAI documents custom apps.

Adding it yourself, or Claude doesn't show the listing? The address is https://mcp.pintonotes.com; in Claude, add it as a custom connector. The older address, https://mcp.ambernotes.app, is the same server and keeps working, so anything you connected before needs no change.

When ChatGPT or Claude asks for permission, sign in on the page that opens, then approve on your iPhone or Mac: type the number the page shows and choose Allow. No device nearby? If you saved a recovery key, you can use it on that page.

Claude Code gets a one-line command with a token of its own, and Codex a few lines for its config file. In Incredible, open Apps, search for notes, choose Connect, then approve it on your iPhone or Mac. On an older version of Incredible, add the address as an MCP server instead. Settings → Connect an AI → Incredible has the steps. Any other app that supports MCP connects with the address and a sign-in too.

How to connect ChatGPT to your notes

Yes. One command adds the address https://mcp.pintonotes.com, then you sign in to Pinto Notes in your browser the first time. Claude Code also has a plugin, and Codex takes one command too.

Install Pinto Notes in your AI tool

Only in a limited way, and only on a Mac: Apple Notes has no public API, so AI apps can't reach your notes in iCloud. Pinto Notes has an MCP server built in, so once you import your notes, ChatGPT and Claude can use them from any device.

Can Claude read your Apple Notes?

Only once you connect it and approve it on your iPhone or Mac. You choose read-only, or read and edit. While it's connected, it can read every note except locked ones: our server opens the notes it asks for in memory, during its requests. Every change an AI makes keeps the previous version, and you can disconnect any assistant in Settings at any time.

How the Pinto Notes MCP server works

Your notes and account

On each device you're signed in on, and, encrypted, on Supabase's servers in Frankfurt, Germany, in the EU. Your notes are encrypted on your devices before they sync. We keep a locked copy of your key so that signing in opens your notes on a new device. That means we could open your notes if we had to, for example under a court order, and so could someone who gets into your account. Some details, such as dates, sizes and folder structure, stay readable. The Privacy & Security page lists all of it.

How encryption works with ChatGPT and Claude

Your AI makes it. Connect ChatGPT, Claude, Claude Code or Codex first (Settings → Connect an AI). Then open a note, choose More (•••) → Make It an App…, and send the words it gives you to your AI. Or just ask your AI: "In Pinto Notes, make my note Habits an app."

The note then opens as the app: a habit tracker you tick, a budget that adds up. Ask your AI to change it whenever you like. More (•••) → App Info… has the version before and Remove App, and the note itself is never deleted.

An app runs inside Pinto Notes and can't reach the internet unless you allow an address. What it saves is encrypted and synced like your notes.

Open Settings → Account and choose Delete Account…. Your account and all your notes are deleted, and this can't be undone.

Can't get into the app? Write to hello@pintonotes.com from the account's email address and I'll delete it for you.

Open an issue on GitHub. Say what happened and what you expected, and a screenshot helps. Ideas are welcome there too.

Sharing

Open the note and choose Share → Share Link…, then confirm. The link is copied, and anyone with it can read the note. To stop, choose Share → Stop Sharing, and the page is gone.

Every shared page ends with a "Report this page" link. Choose it and say what's wrong. Or write to hello@pintonotes.com with the page's address.

Reports are reviewed within 24 hours, and pages that break the terms of use are taken down.

Terms of use

Sign in, and your notes open. Nothing else is needed, and there is no wait after a password reset. If the device has been signed in for more than an hour without your notes, it asks you to sign in once more. Every device of yours shows "A new device opened your notes", and we email you.

If you still have Advanced protection on (we're retiring it), a new device needs your key first: from iCloud Keychain, from a device that has your notes (Settings → Security → Add a device), or from your recovery key.

If your account is from before signing in could open your notes, the app asks you once which way you want it. Until you answer, a new device is added as with Advanced protection.
